Updating your Website with Fresh Content

So your webmaster has been working on your site for weeks now and you are excited to be almost finished! But is it ever finished?

It is funny that websites are treated as a one time thing. Even the word “site” implies something that is  fixed. The truth is websites cannot be any further from this.

It used to be that a simple brochure type website with a few of pages of information would be all your business needed for web presence.  You wouldn’t have to worry about updating your website again until you needed a redesign, a couple years later. Those days are long gone.

If you don’t want your website to attract new customers or make any money then don’t worry about updating your website with new content. But if you want new clients to find your website, you must change your way of thinking quick.

New, fresh content plays a major role in search engine optimization and if a website has content that never changes, a search engine knows it.  The search engine spiders will stop crawling your site because what is the point? Why look for content that is always the same?

Blogging platforms provide an easy way for you to add new information to your site. You should be writing blog articles once a week at the VERY  least. Some people write blog articles on a daily basis.  Begin blogging once a week and stick to that. Then, bump it up to twice a week.  Eventually try to work your way up to  3-4 times a week.

Tips for updating your websiteIn need of some fresh topic ideas to update your site? Consider what time of year it is when writing your blog articles, as people’s search terms may change with the seasons. For example, if you are a clothing store, you could write an article about “Swimsuit Fashions – What to Wear this Summer”, or “The Best Christmas Gift Ideas”.

Consistently updating your website with fresh content helps your rankings in two ways.

#1-  We know that Google spiders newly added content

#2- High page content is another factor Google considers when ranking your website

Just think if you wrote even one blog article a week for a year, that’s 52 pages of new content!

Tips for updating your websiteIf you don’t have one day a week to set aside, try to write 4-5 articles, once a month, then schedule them to post once a week.
